Bloggers from across Wales take top awards at prestigious event

The Wales Blog Awards has celebrated the best amateur bloggers in Wales at the fourth annual event in Cardiff.

Thirty two finalists gathered at Chapter Arts Centre, Canton on Thursday 15th May to see who had scooped the top prizes.

Alice Roythorne from Cardiff took the most coveted award of the evening – winning the People’s Choice ‘Best Blog’ Award for her moving blog aliceroythorne.wordpress.com, which tracks her personal journey through cancer.

Alice also wins the opportunity to feature as a guest writer on Wales Online, and will have four columns published on the lifestyle opinion section of the website.

She said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to win the People’s Choice award – it means so much to me knowing that those who read my blog care enough to vote for me. I started writing this blog as a way to help me get to grips with my illness and it became a real crutch for me. It’s overwhelming to think that my journey has touched other people and I’m so grateful for their support.”

The Wales Blog Awards aim to highlight creative and interesting writing on a range of subjects, including food and drink, sport and entrants’ local communities.

The Wales Blog Awards 2014 received over 300 entries from across the country, which the judges whittled down to a final shortlist of 32.
